KOKO is a Los Angeles based artist and designer. He holds a Master’s in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University in New York. His painting experience dates to an early age via private instruction, the “atelier” method, pairing with a master artist for several years. With his formal education in architectural design and his years of painting, KOKO developed a series of abstract works that explore the two worlds of Art and Architecture. His figures are an identifiable element in all his work. His paintings explore connections, scale, movement and space of both figures and the environments they occupy.
From an early age KOKO was drawn to abstract art. His mother was a fashion designer and father a culinary chef. Growing up in a household that embraced and cultivated artistic expression; KOKO began painting. His fascination with form and composition lead to his formal education in architecture. His experience in design impacted his paintings; creating an identifiable vernacular in his work. After returning from New York, KOKO designed for world renowned architect Frank Gehry for over 7 years. In Frank’s design studio KOKO collaborated with furniture, fashion and product designers including Louis Vuitton, Rodarte and the Guggenheim Museum.
KOKO’s painting collections have been exhibited in many acclaimed public and private showcases as far back as 2001. His experience includes both group and solo exhibitions. Whether painting in his studio or collaborating with larger design teams, KOKO is always developing new and exciting work for his collectors and viewing audiences. He continues to push the boundaries of his work and always seeks innovative ideas to develop his work.
